MAP’ Community Choreographic Project invites ‘untrained’ people to participate and perform a new work by professional artists to the public. This year Olivia Webb (sound and visual artist) in collaboration with Julia Harvie (contemporary choreographer), will create a multidisciplinary and site-specific performance P O O L SIDE, underpinned by their mutual interest in community performance and democratisation of the body and voice. P O O L SIDE will be a choral and movement driven work situated at the Waltham Community Pool once it has been emptied for the winter in June.
Halfway through the process, they will run an open rehearsal as part of Open Christchurch at The Canopy at the Arts Centre, the site of the Old Boys’ High swimming pool.
Conceptually, the pool as a gathering for communities is a site rich for social commentary, referencing the physical absence of water in these pools, P O O L SIDE will invite dialogue on the challenges we face as a community in regards to the impacts we have on our water ecosystems, and the ways we can work together to address these challenges.
Publicly accessible restrooms, Wheelchair/Walking Aid/Pram accessible, Service animals allowed, Assistive listening devices, Child friendly.
