Join Dr Kate Linzey as she talks to the gallery’s newest Len Lye sculpture, Convolutions and discusses implications Lye’s sculptural practice has for architecture.

From his vantage point of the 1960s, Len Lye described his sculptural works as “pretty good for the 21st century”. With many of his concept designs now realised, the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery / Len Lye Centre invites leading artists, curators and scholars to explore his visionary work.

Architectural Scholar Dr Linzey, is part of a new generation of scholars exploring the world of Len Lye. Based on PhD research completed at ATCH (Centre for study on Architecture, Theory, Criticism and History) at the University of Queensland, this talk will explore Convolution’s engagement with space and how it is reflected in the facade of the Len Lye Centre designed by Patterson Architects (2016). Lye’s writings on the creative imagination will inform Linzey’s reading of Lye’s art alongside architecture as symbols of personal and collective identity.
