Alzheimer's and Parkinson’s: The Role of Neurons – An Association of Friends of the Otago Museum Talk
Many common brain diseases, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, are thought to be caused by inefficient waste disposal and recycling in neurons of the brain. We have gained a significant understanding of the waste disposal process in neurons by studying a group of rare childhood brain disorders known as Batten disease.
In this talk, Dr Stephanie Hughes, Associate Professor and Director Brain Health Research Centre, University of Otago will describe her work on Batten disease and how this knowledge may translate into therapies for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
