Oleg Polounine, Selected Work 2015-2020
22 May – 2 June 2021
Opening 22 May 2-4 pm

For this exhibition Oleg Polounine will be sharing a selection of work made over the last five years, providing an entry into his expanding practice.

Colour, light, shadow, and form are Polounine’s main visual concerns; the perception and experience of what we see has been a continuous conceptual undercurrent of his practice in recent years. What do we focus on, what do we glance over, how do we experience or interpret a certain place, and how is that different from another’s experience?

With Polounine’s two latest floor sculptures, the focus of his practice has shifted from these primarily visual concerns to the experience of movement and time, signalling a new direction that can be thematically linked to his earlier work here.

Oleg Polounine studied at the Elam School of Fine Art where he received a Master of Fine Arts with First Class Honours in 2011. He is based in Auckland and has mostly exhibited with the Peter McLeavey gallery in Wellington. Oleg currently works as a fine arts technician at Whitecliffe.
