Experience the magic of male voices and the joy of mixed choirs
The New Zealand Male Choir is performing at Lake Hawea Community Centre with Mount Aspiring College Singers on Tuesday 21st September 2021 at 7.00pm.

The joy of singing in a choral setting is what brings the New Zealand Male Choir and the College Choir together for an evening of music. The choirs will perform separately and together so you get to hear the widest variety of sound. They will present music from modern shows to opera, from Negro spirituals to an old Irish air, from Sting to Handel. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear mixed choral singing at its best.

The New Zealand Male Choir is an auditioned choir with over 60 members from Southland to North Auckland, of which 34 will be on tour. Conducted by Hawkes Bay’s Joe Christensen, the Choir sing a range of music including classical, folk, waiata, gospel, operatic, popular, jazz and contemporary.

The Choir have entertained audiences both nationally and internationally for the past 22 years including a number of tours throughout Europe, Australia and Canada. The Choir practises with North Island and South Island groups meeting monthly, and collectively meet for tours or concerts three or four times a year. This will be the second concert in an eighteen-day concert tour around the central and lower South Island.

Men interested in joining the choir can make contact via the website: www.nzmalechoir.co.nz or speak to any of its members at the concert.

Earlier this year the Mount Aspiring College [MAC] Choir competed in the annual Big Sing choral competition and returned home with several accomplishments under their belt. The group performed three pieces from the chosen genres in the competition [New Zealand/Pacifica, classical, and modern] at an exceptionally high standard, much to the delight of the school community. Nationally, about 10,000 students from over 250 schools compete every year across new Zealand. Choir Director Joanne Waide was thrilled with the result from the choir, and could not be prouder of what they achieved.

At the Dunedin regional finals, the MAC Choir was awarded a Certificate of Commendation, an honour received by a small group of choirs on the day.The group's student conductor, Ollie Blyth [Yr 11] , was also given the 'most promising student conductor award'.

The two choirs are looking forward to entertaining Wanaka and surrounding districts and give the promise of an enjoyable and memorable evening of music and song. Tickets are available on the Eventfinda website or at the door. Adults $20. Secondary& Primary Students free. Eft-Pos available.
