The New Zealand Mountain Film Festival National Tour is coming to Wellington once again with a double feature! We'll be showing both the Award-Winning Films and Kiwi made films.
The festival started in 2002 and is internationally recognised as one of the world’s premier mountain film festival events. It's NZ’s original mountain film festival with an international adventure film maker’s competition, as well as a highly regarded NZ made a division.
The Wellington Tramping and Mountaineering Club and the Victoria University of Wellington Tramping Club have joined forces to bring the films to Wellington.
9 September - *Award Winning films from the Festival* include Wingsuit BASE jumping; climbing Mount Logan in Canada followed by a ski, snowboard and monoski descent over 48 days and 700km; Swiss climber Katherine Choong’s ascent of 9A (NZ grade 35) rock climbing route Jungfrau Marathon; a 40-day adventure to Baffin Island of bigwall first ascents, whitewater paddle descents and wild Arctic flamingos; and the full movie of Andrzej Bargiel’s K2 ski descent.
13 September - *Kiwi Made*: Films either made in NZ or films made by New Zealanders include a ski-traverse of the Southern Alps from Arthur's Pass to the Godley Valley; the first ascent of the Airport Wall in Fiordland; a journey of the infamous ‘Garden of Eden’ ice plateau and the wild West Coast for a first ascent of Newton Peak; a contemplation of art and adventure in the southern wilds of New Zealand; a self-filmed free climb of Aoraki/Mt Cook's East Ridge and a pilgrimage to the recently discovered route ‘Pilgrim’ - the last unclimbed route on Mt Cook; and Kehu Butler explores his favourite surf spots around NZ along with deep connections to family, friends and ocean.
