Move and play with Ollin Yoliztli
Mexican dance tutor Ana Laura López Vargas is the founder of Ollin Yoliztli, a dance group in Wellington. She is passionate about teaching dance styles from across Mexico, including the accompanying songs, costumes and cultural customs.
In this workshop Laura, accompanied by dancer Arantxa Bernáldez and musician Edgar Cajero, will introduce you to a dance philosophy she refers to as “A Musical Approach to the Soul of Son Jarocho”. Laura uses Son Jarocho to create a space of learning, joy and history through music, where anyone can sing, dance and pick up an instrument. During the workshop you will use this practice to create a collaborative musical and dance piece.
All dance levels are welcome and you don’t need a partner to sign up. If you have a musical instrument you are welcome to bring it along to play as part of your Son Jarocho experience.
Booking is essential as numbers are limited. Tickets $10, book now to secure your spot.
Note: The workshop will take place in Taurima Dance Studio, enter through the gallery on the ground floor.
