Come celebrate the opening of our latest exhibition Sea Monsters: Prehistoric Ocean Predators with a massive weekend of fun! Sea Monsters shows you the giant reptiles of over 20-metres-long who hunted the depths of the sea while dinosaurs ruled the land, in an exhibition with over 70 displays, real fossils, huge casts, immersive multimedia and hands-on interactives.
All Saturday and Sunday is packed with events: face painting, nighttime disco, bouncy castle, activities, crafts in the ultimate family weekend of fun, free, and low-cost events.
First, stop in at Otago Museum’s Hutton Theatre and have a bounce and slide on our SpongeBob Bouncy Castle. It is free, and you can spring into our sea-themed games while you are there with the video game Splash: Ocean Sanctuary, on the big screen! Our life-sized plesiosaur hopscotch will lead you to our free Monster Makerspace where you can make your own Anglerfish shadow puppet that you can take home. Then stop in at the Beautiful Science gallery that has been transformed into a multimedia aquarium, Plunge, with virtual sea monsters floating around you in augmented reality that you can interact with.
Dunedin’s Marine Science Touch Tanks will be onsite too, so you can get up close to Dunedin’s marine life including sea cucumbers, anemones and crabs.
