WORD Christchurch

Fifty years ago, inspired by the Black Panthers, a group of young leaders founded the Polynesian Panther Party to push back against systematic racism like the Dawn Raids. One of those founders was the brilliant Dr Melani Anae QSO, a Fullbright scholar and Marsden Award recipient, and expert on ethics and Pacific leadership and identity. In conversation with young leader Okirano Tilaia (responsible for the student candlelight vigil following the mosque attacks), Melani reflects on the recent announcement of an apology for the Dawn Raids, and her new book "The Platform", detailing five decades spent in peaceful resistance, educating New Zealand about ongoing racism, and Pacific empowerment.
