Stanza 23 of this now iconic event is a collaboration between some leading literary talent! This Salon will explore the concept of home and alienation through a range of literary genres – poetry, novels, essays, plays and non-fiction- from three women writers.

Our three wāhine toa will present their work, experiences and opinions in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. So, settle back in a comfy chair with a free glass of wine and canapés, while enjoying an exchange of ideas with our stimulating speakers

Featuring Alice Te Punga Somerville (Te Āti Awa, Taranaki) scholar, poet and irredentist. Alice gave the 2021 Michael King Memorial Lecture ‘Too many Cooks?’ and is the author of Once Were Pacific: Māori Connections to Oceania and Two Hundred and Fifty Ways to Start an Essay About Captain Cook

Dr Paula Morris (Ngati Wai) is a multi-award-winning novelist, short story writer and essayist. She has received numerous fellowships, international residencies and awards for her writing, including best work of fiction at both the NZ Post Book Awards and Nga Kupu Ora Māori Book Awards in 2012 for her novel Rangatira. Her stories are widely anthologised and broadcast, and her 2008 collection, Forbidden Cities, was a regional finalist in the Commonwealth Prize.

Multi-talented writer and performer Lynda Chanwai Earle is a fourth-generation Chinese New Zealander. Her written work includes plays, poems and film scripts. The play Ka Shue – Letters Home in 1996 is semi-autobiographical and is significant as the first authentically New Zealand–Chinese play for mainstream audiences.

Come along to this inspiring and interesting evening for writers and readers to meet and converse. There will be some of our panellists’ work available for sale at the event.

Salon tickets include a glass and some nibbles. Available online on The Meteor website or door sales on the night. Includes wine and canapes served between the events.
