Create one of the most useful tools in the kitchen - the wooden spoon. This beginners workshop will show you how to use the specialist carving tools to make your own spoon, exactly as you like it. Your tutor Ricky has been spoon carving for a number of years and is passionate about his craft; he will guide you through the workshop to teach you how to safely handle a straight knife, and a crook knife to:
- define the basic shape with initial cuts;
- refine the shape;
- finish by sanding then coating with beeswax or food-grade mineral oil to bring out the natural beauty of the wood and make the spoon fit for kitchen use.
You will have a choice of pre-cut, easy to handle billets cut from a selection of different woods to carve out your spoon. All materials and tools are provided and no previous woodworking experience is required; you will go home with your very own, personal, wooden cooking spoon.
