Bev Doohan's usual medium and the subject is watercolour flowers. As a floral designer for many years, the forms of plant material have become very familiar to her as she has explored the structure, colour, and shapes of all the various beautiful plants that is used in flower arranging. As a countrywoman, she has a deep appreciation of the forms that the land takes when impacted both by us, and by nature. Bev felt the need to move, in a very challenging year, in another direction and this exhibition is the result of that exploration. She has, over the years, painted a few landscapes and has included them within this exhibition as a contrast.

Bev describes her art journey, beginning 12 years ago when she joined Evelyn Thompson's classes. While under Evelyn's excellent tutelage, Bev was taught to push her boundaries in all directions while still being authentic.

In regards to her current work Bev says:

"I now work on my own and have maximised my flower paintings by having cards, wrapping paper and a calendar printed.

After a very long painting session last year which culminated in an exhibition I needed to move in another direction. I moved away from flowers altogether and embarked on a landscape painting blitz. As a countrywoman, the landscape has always been of great interest to me. Nature in all its forms is truly wonderful. For personal reasons it was a very therapeutic move. While I am still not sure how I feel about the move, it has been the right one for me this year. Who knows what will come next?"
