Kokomo, based in sunny Tauranga, is New Zealand's leading blues 'n' roots band, having established a unique and distinctive style and becoming renowned for dynamic live shows and highly-regarded songwriting. The band have previously performed two memorable concerts at The Back Room.
Since the nineties the Kokomo has left an indelible stamp on the New Zealand blues scene, toured extensively throughout New Zealand, performing at the country’s major rock, blues, jazz and folk festivals, exploring the different possibilities of blues-based music, releasing more than a dozen albums and a live concert DVD.
Throughout 2021 Kokomo has released a series of blues-based singles (available on Spotify and elsewhere) around New Zealand themes (“I'm Going Fishing”, “Highway 29 Blues” and more). These songs form the basis of the band's upcoming album, due before Christmas, which centres round contemporary acoustic blues styles.
In Thames expect some old favourites, a diversion into the world of earthy old Delta blues, some new Kokomo songs and probably a dip into the odd Bob Dylan tune.
