A unique Matariki concert celebration of jazz & blues genres led by acclaimed singer/songwriter Catherine Tunks and special guest vocalist Alana Goldsmith.
With songs in both Te Reo Māori and English, enjoy a winter mulled wine in the stunning surrounds of Old St Michaels Church, pre booking advised.

Two of Aucklands most accomplished female vocalists performing together at this intimate and stunning winter venue.

CATHERINE TUNKS
A genre defying songstress of blues, soul, and country rock/Americana, Catherine Tunks is redefining the boundaries.
A well known and prolific NZ songwriter (Te whanau a Apanui/Whakatohea) and self-described musical gypsy, she has performed and recorded in Ireland, Germany, the South Pacific, and the US. Receiving two song-writing award nominations (ISC / Waiata Maori Music Awards), always ready with a guitar in hand and an ability to tell a travellers tale through her sultry and heartfelt vocals. Catherine has become NZ’s own queen of the American ‘Southern Soul’ - a crossover of the country/blues/bluegrass and gospel’ genres - performing recently in Kiwigrass festival as the Gospel stage and her third Independent South Island Tour.
Hand picked by BLuefest Touring Australia to support UK BLues icon John Mayall - her reach across musical worlds spans many adventures.
A true crossover artist - and vocally trained in Jazz, she has travelled the world as a performing and recording artist with Four acclaimed album releases, an impressive list of festival appearances and collaborations with musicians from all over the globe. (Arli Liberman/Israel, Thomas Koenig/Germany, Stefan Nagler/Germany, Jon Sanders/Ireland) to name a few
With a rock n roll edge in the mix that stems from her thoroughbred west Auckland roots, she evokes the style of big voiced gals with attitude, one can hear influences from Bonnie Raitt, Susan Tedeschi, Etta James to Emmy Lou Harris. Just a dusty road away from Tunks’ jazz-soul days with her infamous former NZ group - ‘Black Sand Diva’.

ALLANA GOLDSMITH
Jazz diva and Auckland based bi-lingual songstress Allana Goldsmith showcases a special collection of original waiata co-composed by her and Mark Baynes for this intimate whanau friendly concert. Allana’s song writing and influences are wide and includes everything from folk and country, to funky soulful tunes. My journey in song writing and also with Te Reo is laid out for all to see. Allana has currently released an Ep of five original waiata in Te Reo Māori from 2015 to 2018. Three of which were funded by Te Māngai Pāho.
“In many ways she is reminiscent of the great singers of the past. What is not redolent of past singers, however, is her preparedness to tackle adventurous modern projects.”– Gig review, the Creative Jazz Club (2013).
