In 2017, FRED Award finalist comedian James Roque (roh-keh) realised he’d been pronouncing his own Filipino last name incorrectly for 17 years.
Since then, he has been on a journey of reclaiming his identity. Kind of like Eat. Pray. Love. but less Julia Roberts, and more culturally confused comedian.
Legal Alien tells the story of an immigrant who, after all these years, feels accepted 90% of the time and otherwise like an outsider who’s being allowed to stay. Packed with anecdotes about trying to fit in, his parents and societal pressures, Legal Alien unpacks how all these things have shaped James to be the person he is today.
