Linn Lorkin with Hershal Herscher

Linn Lorkin is one of the most well-loved performers and songwriters on the local scene, performing with Happy Talk, The Nairobi Trio, The First Ladies of Jazz, French Toast, The Jews Brothers Band and lately with her own jazz combo, The K Road Quartet. Her solo show "Hey, Piano Bar Lady!' won the Best Cabaret award at the 2013 United Solo Festival in New York and was reprised at Auckland Writers Festival in 2018 and at Tahi Festival Wellington in 2020. She received acclaim as the featured singer in NZ’s famous World of Wearable Art show, 2016, singing in French and Russian and was the recipient of a Variety Artists Club NZ Scroll of Honour in 2014. She can be heard on 18 albums on her own Rouge Records label and is currently recording an audio book of her memoirs The Redhead Gets the Gig. www.pianobarlady.com

Hershal Herscher Born in Brooklyn, New York, Hershal learned piano accordion from the age of seven eventually switching to piano, at which he excels.

Hershal came to NZ with Linn, working as a pianist/arranger and bandleader with various well-known New York Latin groups including the prominent Orquesta Broadway. He was recently presented with the Tony Rodriguez Award for Excellence for his contribution to Latin music in New York. In NZ, Herschal founded, arranged for, and led the Nairobi Trio, The Jews Brothers Band, Orquesta Amadeus ( playing Cuban charanga) and with Linn, French Toast.

Kia ora Linn and Hershal for being available to share waiata and korero with us.
