Placeholder: Selected Works by Inge and Marc Doesburg
A Joint Exhibition by RDS Gallery and Inge Doesburg Studio
22 July - 31 July 2021

This exhibition brings together the works of Inge and Marc Doesburg, testifying to their long and rich partnership in life and in art. A printmaker, painter and photographer, Inge Doesburg needs no introduction. Her gallery and studio have been a fixture in Dunedin over the past twenty years. She seeks her inspiration in the New Zealand landscape, where she finds “manifold equivalents and correspondences to the expression of our inner world,” in the words of poet Rainer Maria Rilke. Marc is an ardent photographer and world traveller. Inquisitive and reflective, he looks outward at our experience of the world, offering a set of black and white images ”carefully composed in an attempt to create order and express an internal view.”

Artist Biographies

Inge Doesburg holds a Diploma in Fine Arts with Honours and a major in printmaking (1993) from the Otago Polytechnic. At 6 Castle Street, Dunedin, she co-founded in 1995 what would become the Inge Doesburg Gallery and Studio and, later in 2019, RDS Gallery directed by Hilary Radner, Inge Doesburg and Marie Strauss. In addition to running a gallery, Inge has exhibited her own work throughout New Zealand. At the end of 2019, after over twenty years of dedicating herself to others, she retired from active gallery duty to focus on her own art. Over the years, she has expanded her practice beyond printmaking to include mixed media works, painting and photography, continuing her exploration of the visual textures and vistas of New Zealand’s South Island.

Marc Doesburg was born in Dunedin of Dutch descent. He grew up in a number of New Zealand cities and lived in the Netherlands and Germany in the 1980s. In 1992 he achieved a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) at the University of Otago in German, and again in English in 1993. Awarded a Master of Applied Linguistics [TESOL] (Macquarie University) in 2001, he has held positions at the University of Otago and the Otago Polytechnic teaching English as a foreign language. He ran the Foundation Studies Department at the latter, subsequently serving as the Director of Global Engagement. He is currently employed as a senior advisor at Education New Zealand.
