“I’m just as good as bloody Pierrepoint.”

In his small pub in Oldham, Harry is something of a local celebrity. But what’s the second-best hangman in England to do on the day they’ve abolished hanging? Amongst the cub reporters and sycophantic pub regulars, dying to hear Harry’s reaction to the news, a peculiar stranger lurks, with a very different motive for his visit.

This very black comedy is the most recent play by acclaimed Irish playwright Martin McDonagh – writer of plays such as “The Beauty Queen of Leenane” and “A Skull in Connemara” and, feature films such as “In Bruges”, “Seven Psychopaths” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”.

Warning: This play is a comedy but there are depictions of hangings which may be confronting. There are also themes typical of the 1960s setting that some may find disturbing or culturally inappropriate.
