About the ‘Artist in Residence’ Weekend at Mangaweka Yellow Church Gallery, SH1...

Wellington Anniversary weekend is the ideal time to hop in your car and take a drive out to the beautiful Rangitikei countryside. While there, be sure to visit Mangaweka Yellow Church Gallery on SH1 and drop in to meet rural painter Graham Christensen, the artist whose exhibition is currently on display there.

Graham will be onsite, at the gallery, with his easel, demonstrating his painting technique and giving you the opportunity to discuss his work and ask any questions.

Graham’s original exhibition ‘Rural Recollections’ opened in March 2020 at the Yellow Church Gallery, but unfortunately closed just a week later, due to the Covid19 lockdown. His exhibition has since re-opened as 'Rural Recollections - Revisited' and now includes several new artworks, completed over the lockdown period.

About the artist...

Graham Christensen did not pick up an artist’s brush until his early 60’s but quickly showed a natural talent with oils and a great affinity with the rural landscape.

He lives on a farm near Palmerston North in the Manawatu region and works from a large, light-filled studio – a converted room at the back of the barn.

Graham exhibits regularly in the Manawatu/Rangitikei region and has also exhibited extensively in Queensland with his works being collected in Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

Graham’s paintings depict his life-long love of farming and the rugged landscape that New Zealand offers. His latest works are a reminiscence of rural life and moments in time that make up the rich tapestry of our farming communities and their significant place in our country’s history. They are a delight to view, being of particular interest to fellow farmers and those with a love for the countryside. All his artworks in this exhibition are available for purchase and for display in your home, office or business - adding a wonderful rural charm to any accommodating wall, corridor or foyer.

So come see Graham, have a chat, watch him while at work with his brush, ask questions, yet more importantly drop by to simply enjoy a day out while viewing some truly stimulating art!

Graham will be at the Yellow Church Gallery, on SH1 in Mangaweka, on Saturday 23, Sunday 24 and Monday 25 of January 2021, from 11am to 4pm each day.

He looks forward to seeing you there!
