'Flagons and Foxtrots' by Alison Quigan and Ross Gumbley, is a rollicking comic play that celebrates the frivolity and fun of New Zealand dance halls of the 1960’s.
It’s a Saturday in 1962 and Sid Jenkins who runs the local dance hall is harried, as he tries to wrangle his crew to be ready for the evening dance. Archie Moore and his trio are trying to convince him to let them play, but they’re just too loose for his liking. This is not surprising with Archie’s dopey brother on the drums. Meanwhile, lead guitarist Jack has got lady issues. Sid’s daughter Jill has her glory box all prepared and she is demanding engagement announcements from Jack, but he hasn’t even spoken to Sid yet! And then there is the question of who put a bun in Rita’s oven?
This play is an immensely entertaining evening out for mature audiences from 15+. The audience is encouraged to don their own 1960’s dance attire and join Sid, Archie and the team in a night of laugh out loud frivolity and entertainment complete with a traditional supper. Join the crew for a nostalgic romp down memory lane.
