Finn McKinlay is a hard-swinging trombone player who has been part of the Dunedin Youth Jazz Orchestra since it's inception in 2018. He is joined by the best young improvising talent in Dunedin to form a jazz Big Band, including lead players Jayden Jesudhass (alto), Matthew Wong (tenor), Tobias Devereux (trumpet) and featured soloists Albert Baeumer (guitar), Louis Robertson (trumpet), Paxton Hall (trumpet) and Isaac Randel (tenor).
Now in its fourth year, this Big Band, directed by Bill Martin, presents a range of repertoire from modern jazz composers such as Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Pat Metheney, Donald Fagan (Steely Dan) and German arrangers such as Bob Curnow and Florian Ross. Add some Bill Martin compositions to the mix and you have a uniquely local approach to Big Band Jazz that sets this group apart from all others in Dunedin!
The DYJO is sixteen piece big band with a full rhythm section, trumpets, trombones and saxophones, so get ready for a groovy, swinging sound at Bark!
