Exhibition “OKONOMI-YA” is a group exhibition held by a group of people who are originally from Japan or have Japanese heritage who all met in Wellington. We create different things in different styles even though our origin is the same.

The exhibition will be open from 7th December till 12th December. We are excited to share our various creations and hope you enjoy them.

The Exhibitors will be...

- Hana Yoshida: She has 2 clothing lines which she design and handcraft herself. One is called "saisei". Saisei means "reborn" in Japanese. She upcycles vintage Japanese kimono fabric and craft modern clothing and accessories using them. Her second line is called "hanable" in which she present Japanese style, simple and chic clothing.

- Atsuko McCallum: Atsuko is from Iwate, Japan. She has learnt doll-making in Japan and cartonnage when living in Belgium for four years. She loves incorporating Japanese culture in her artwork making kimono for her dolls, and using old kimono fabric for her boxes.

- Takako Masuyama: Takako is from Tokyo, Japan and moved to Wellington, New Zealand in 2011. She loves sewing, felt-work and creating jewellery. All of the origami earrings are folded by her with Japanese chiyogami paper which is thicker and softer than standard paper.

- Emy Oikawa: Emy is of Colombian and Japanese heritage and has been living in in New Zealand since 2015. In Colombia, she has discovered her passion for coloured clay. Ever since she has created various cultures and nature-inspired clay artworks and jewellery on her business called Eclo Art.
