“Together we can not stab each other.”

jam&soy present ‘Both Sides of the Door’.

‘Both Sides of the Door’ is an exhibition about making the most of time, exploring and creating, being wild and free.

In life, you rarely get to see both sides of the door at once; in this exhibition you will experience a glimpse of the simultaneous duality.

The ‘Both Sides of the Door’ chalk pastel series and oil pastel series both showcase our intrinsic love of wordplay and customary bold splashes of colour. Read on – explore the words, let them create a personal meaning for you.

The ‘Virtues 2020’ sculpture collection consists of upcycled items, found around the home and from family – all items which would normally add to the landfill. There are 16 Virtues – the art viewer decides on the virtue which is portrayed and encased in each bottle.

We have also included some stand-alone pieces which reflect our exploration of art.

jam&soy are contemporary artists who combine their talents to create art in many forms, including painting, drawing, music, written word, sound art, and sculpture. jam&soy are Joy Wright (multi-media artist and costume designer); and Sam Cleaver (composer, musician, and vocalist).

“Our style is usually very vivid and eclectic. On one hand you will often find traditional art media; on the other you will find up-cycled and recycled items in our art. We work together on our projects simultaneously, and strive to allow each other total freedom of expression. Together we brainstorm ideas and begin quickly, letting the release of exploration guide us in the process, with mutual inspiration growing from one another’s ideas. For most works we create a series using a particular idea to guide us – sometimes being inspired by exploration of a medium, by found-object/up-cycling ideas, by environmental or local topical issues, or by reading back over our written word art. Inspiration is everywhere; jam&soy art is how we entertain ourselves, how we escape, and how we grow.”
