The Friends of the Tauranga Art Gallery are hosting an exclusive fundraising evening on Friday, June 25 in support of the Tauranga Art Gallery. Held at Elizabeth Café in the CBD, 80 guests will be treated to a delicious three-course meal, accompanied by bubbles on arrival and a glass of wine with your main course.
And as for the art…that is where award-winning painter and recording artist Jordan Barnes comes in. Barnes will talk to dinner guests about his art practice and his most recent painting; a hyper-realistic portrait of his father, which will be on display at the event. Barnes is also a successful recording artist who has had recent success placing 5 songs on the Emmy Award-winning Fox TV Show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
All proceeds from the event will go towards the Tauranga Art Gallery; the only public art gallery in the Western Bay of Plenty. The Gallery strives to create exceptional and unique art experiences for residents and visitors to the region. Tauranga Art Gallery delivers a broad range of art exhibitions (both within the Gallery and touring), art workshops, artist talks and its hugely popular Art for Kids programme.
Each year over 9,500 local children travel to the Tauranga Art Gallery to take part in Art for Kids, a NZ curriculum art programme where they create their own artwork. These visits are the beginning of a life-long connection with the arts. They help foster a child’s creative mind and encourage children to apply critical, innovative, and reflective thinking to all areas of their life. This service is kept affordable for schools thanks to the Gallery’s free ArtBus. It’s to help fund the ArtBus and other unique exhibitions that this event is taking place.
At the event, guests will have the chance to extend their support by bidding on an amazing array of silent auction items including a David Trubridge Light, a ‘Coffee a Day for a Year’ from Clarke Road Kitchen, a Repertoire voucher and styling session, and a magnum of Craggy Range Prestige Collection, among other luxury lifestyle items.
The Friends of Tauranga Art Gallery - Nga Mata Ratarata o Toi Tauranga are a group of art enthusiasts committed to supporting the Gallery socially, financially and as art advocates. The Friends committee members use their collective industry knowledge to organise events such as Dinner á la Art for members and the public to enjoy, while generating support for the Tauranga Art Gallery.
