For almost two years Covid-19 has changed the ways we live our lives. While the global pandemic has given us all pause for thought, music has been one of the ways we have kept our spirits up during a time of uncertainty and social distancing. “Delta Serenade” acknowledges the challenges we have all faced and offers a brief respite from the world’s problems with a programme full of beautiful music from the string repertoire, some old and some very new.

There are two actual serenades in the programme – one by Russian-American composer Elena Roussanova Lucas and the first movement of Suk’s deeply romantic serenade. Opening the programme is a Camerata favourite, Andante Festivo by Sibelius, followed by Concerto Grosso in G Op. 6 no.1 by Handel. Another popular gem from the string orchestra repertoire is Mozart’s evergreen Divertimento no.1, the first of the so-called three Salzburg Symphonies. We are delighted to feature two Christchurch composers in the concert with a new work by Burnside High School student Jamison Clarke (Medieval Dance) and Richard Oswin’s Moa Tango.

The concert is part of the all-day events celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Music Canterbury (formerly the Christchurch Civic Music Council).
