Death and Dying Day Course – A Buddhist Perspective

This course is presented in two parts.

The morning event will focus on Buddhist psychology and philosophy about death and dying as well as practical tips that integrate easily into modern life. The afternoon session will focus on more traditional Buddhist ritual practices performed for those who have died.

Part One: Meditation Workshop | 10.00 –1.00pm

We are alive, therefore we will die. This is the simplest, most obvious truth of our existence, yet very few of us have really come to terms with this fact. Buddha gave extensive teachings on the death process, and on how to use an awareness of our death to live a more full and meaningful life.

Part Two: Guided Powa Practice | 2.15pm – 4pm

The practice of Powa is a traditional Buddhist ritual practice to transfer the consciousness of those who have recently died, or our own consciousness, to a Pure Land. Powa practice explains clearly how we can face our own death, and how we can help those who are dying. This is one of the kindest things we can do for ourself and for others.

Suitable for beginners and advanced. Everybody is welcome

What to expect at a class:
These classes are based on Buddha’s teachings on the mind, but you do not need to be a Buddhist to attend or to benefit from them. There is no physical exercise involved and you can choose to sit either in a chair or on a cushion.

These classes are suitable for all levels of experience.
