CINDERELLA
Tarrant Dancers
Two shows at 4pm and 7pm

A fairy tale of dreams, magic, families and fun, Cinderella is one of the best-loved of stories and in a year in which uncertainty and the unexpected have been the norm, what better ballet to finish the year on? Wonderful young dancers who have managed to keep dancing through two very unusual and unsettled years take the stage to tell this famous story of wishes and dreams, with a bit of family opposition thrown in but with a positive story and joyous ending.

Over 50 young dancers will be telling this story and both their audience and the dancers will be part of this currently threatened but very special magic which is performance.

Directed and choreographed by Deirdre Tarrant with lighting by Wendy Clease this will be a very special dancing treat to end the year.

Prokoviev provides these dancers with the chance to dance to a great classical score. Taking the roles of Cinderella and her Prince are Sylvie Smith (Onslow College) and Jettson Watt (Wellington College).

We thought 2020 was a year like no other however 2021 has proven as challenging and the Tarrant Dancers have created their own social comment THE WORLD WE LIVE IN. The dark stage before the fantastical ballet world of an age-old rages to riches story will be a platform for individual dance statements from these same young New Zealanders as their world has literally changed . . .again!
Dancing has been a constant and an important part of survival for us all and for a few minutes the Scholars of the Tarrant Dance Studios will have space to make their own movement vocabulary inspired by being those who will take our world forward... Climate Change Disruption Dilemma Choice... the clock keeps ticking...
