This playful exhibition brings together a selection of recent and new works by Dunedin-based ceramicist Blue Black. A number of colourful freestanding and wall-based sculptures which are constructed from ceramic forms and a range of found and discarded organic and man-made materials will be on show.

This work generated is process-based. I just make and in the making, ideas and reasons for producing the work evolve during the process or until the works are realised. I am a maker because that is what I do. It’s often not until assembling the work that it fully takes shape. It is a process that grounds me, the act of making. | Blue Black

Blue Black pushes the limits of clay, and uses an experimental and intuitive process to create his works. His unique process results in works which are sure to spark joy, intrigue and amusement.

Blue Black has worked with clay since the 1980s and has received national attention over the years. His accomplishments include being a finalist in the prestigious Wallace Award in 2008 and also a finalist in the Portage Ceramic Award four times in 2006, 2014, 2017 and 2018.
