Wellington jazz trumpet legend Geoff Culverwell was invited to the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1981 to perform his original compositions and now visits the Dunedin Jazz Club from his current home in Kapiti to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of this amazing achievement. Geoff is a unique solo instrumentalist and vocalist, mixing his virtuoso trumpet playing with flute, percussion and soulful scatting. For this special, one-off concert, he performs jazz standards and his original compositions with leading local players Bill Martin (piano), Andy Lynch (bass) and Carl Woodward (drums).

Support for this event will be provided by our house band, the Dunedin Youth Jazz Orchestra, directed by Bill Martin. They will perform a short opening set of Thelonious Monk compositions, including “Round Midnight”, “In Walked Bud” and “Ruby, My Dear”, as well as the fast swinging composition “Fünf Freunde” by German composer, Florian Ross.

The Dunedin Jazz Club is a licensed venue that creates the atmosphere of a jazz club in a concert setting. We have a cash bar and have some tables available for seating on the ground level.
