Baroque Music Community and Educational Trust of New Zealand invites you to come and enjoy a beautiful concert with talented emerging artists led by Tomas Hurnik, cellist, concert organizer, soloist and associate principal of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. The Canterbury University students’ ensemble will be performing Bach Orchestral Suite no.1 in C major BWV 1066 in addition to other works featuring young soloists.

The photo above is of 14 year old Ingrid Ichiko Kosaka who will be playing Vivaldi Concerto for two cellos with Tomas Hurnik (soloist, concert organizer, teacher and associate principal of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra). Ingrid has been studying cello with Tomas Hurnik for 3 years and was born in Japan

Also featured will be oboe soloists Luka Reardon and Elena Salmond and bassoon soloist Gabriel Baird in the Bach Orchestral Suite no.1. These young artists will also be performing in works by Zelenka and Fesch.

Supporting and mentoring emerging artists of New Zealand has become a new alternative to past concerts since travel complications have made bringing international musicians to New Zealand next to impossible. However it has been a very positive change, not only bringing new life into Baroque music, as we heard with Rakuto's popular Baroque composition in the Februay 2021 eight city concert tour throughout New Zealand, but also fulfilling a role in supporting young New Zealand musicians.

Cash door sale also available

Tomas Hurnik has a rich musical career performing with Czech symphonies, recording for radio and television, winning various chamber music competitions and taking part in prestigious chamber groups such as Talich Chamber Orchestra. He has played with various period instrument groups such as Musica Florea, Capella Regia Prague and Solamente Naturali with which he performed and toured around Europe. He is now the associate principal in Christchurch Symphony and continues to be passionate about period instrument playing and organizes and performs in concerts, workshops and masterclasses of Baroque music in New Zealand.
