“He aha koe e kore mārama mai ai ki au?”

Meet Atā.
Atā wants to perform.
Unfortunately, Atā is faced with resistance from many aspects of her life and has to find a way to navigate this world in her own, authentic way.

Funny, heart-breaking, and unapologetically Māori, Atāmira is an exploration of identity told through music, theatre, and Toi Māori. The show explores the duality of Kapa Haka and Theatre, looking into the aspects that are significant to both art forms and the common ground that can be found between both.

Devised and performed by Hinerangimarie Berryman and based on her own experiences, Atāmira offers insight into the mind of a young performer fighting against a system that’s forcing her into category she’s not sure she belongs in.

Created as a part of the Boil Up Creative Development programme.
