Exhibiting artist Kathryn Carter will be in the gallery this Saturday 20th November between 11am-2pm. All welcome to pop in and meet Kathryn and share your thoughts on her collection of works in 'Marking Time' - her solo show.

Kathryn is also keen to meet those who have a connection with Matapouri. Through observational studies of islands and headland landforms from her studio in Matapouri Bay, Northland, Kathryn Carter explores a sense of place in her paintings that connects her to the New Zealand landscape. Marking Time is an eleven-week investigation into belonging in an unknown and new type of world that is not at all familiar. Carter posed the question: How do we stay sane in a world of lockdowns and quarantine that we have no apparent control over? This collection of works is her response as she gained a sense of calmness through watching nature, the passing of storms across the sky and sea, and the intersection of sky and sea at the horizon, providing a unique observational opportunity that she quotes “has been visually and experientially incredible”.
