Join Michelle Patient to hear how her research into the Polack family led to some interesting insights into the early days of Aotearoa New Zealand and the impact of European colonisation.

Researching the Polack family lead to some interesting insights into the early days of Aotearoa New Zealand and the impact of European colonisation. In this talk, Michelle will explore a branch of her family through the traces they left in records, newspapers, art, photography and writings. She will discuss their occupations, movements and relationships, focusing on their time in Tāmaki Makaurau in the 1840s.

Scientist and genealogist, Michelle is a past President of the NZSG and current NZ representative of the Guild of One Name Studies (GOONS). She has spoken in New Zealand, Australia, and England, and has an interest in education, surname research, adoptions, methodology, and technology. She set up the New Zealand DNA Users Group and is a co-founder of Talking Family History.
