Have you ever thought about writing and publishing your own memoir? If so, this workshop is for you. Award-winning author Alison Wong, known for her lyrical and intelligent prose and poetry, has a memoir forcoming on her and her family's experiences of Aotearoa, Australia and China, looking at identity, belonging and sense of home. In addition to hands-on exercises, Alison will help you explore craft, editing and how to write a compelling narrative. You'll examine the difference between autobiography and memoir, and the thorny question of privacy when writing about your own and other people’s lives. You're also invited to submit any writing done in this workshop for editing and publication in our Magazine-in-Residence, takahē.

PLEASE NOTE:
Unfortunately with the suspension of quarantine-free travel between Australia and New Zealand, Alison Wong will no longer be able to present her memoir workshop in person. She will now present her workshop via video link, with audiences still gathering in person at Spark Place as planned.

Alison's session will still be interactive and hands-on. You'll get the benefit of her expertise, and be able to chat directly with her and share your work.
