WORD Christchurch

WORD invites you to spend an hour celebrating the incredible work and success of Ōtautahi’s own Tusiata Avia. Her adaptation of "Wild Dogs Under My Skirt" recently toured nationwide, and appeared off-Broadway to great acclaim. In 2020, she received a Queen's Birthday honour and an Arts Foundation laureateship, and published her latest collection "The Savage Coloniser Book", which won the poetry award at this year’s national book awards, and is also headed for the stage. Avia is joined by the dream team who staged Wild Dogs, Victor Rodger and Anapela Polata’ivao, to discuss taking a poetry book to the New York stage, the challenges of adapting her controversial new work, and what is next on her agenda.

Tickets are not required to attend free events. We do recommend arriving early to secure a place. Please note that if COVID-19 alert levels change, online registration for free events will be required.
