Hear some of the most romantic swing songs ever written, performed by the wonderful Helen Pahulu and Andrew Healey. Songs made famous by such jazz legends as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, presented in a contemporary ‘nu-swing’ style that will be sure to get you ‘feeling the beat’.

Andrew and Helen, are joined by the Naughton/White quartet featuring Chris Naughton - piano, Adam Naughton - drums, Anthony White - bass and Cameron Kelso on sax. Get ready for a night of charm, innocence and romance, with classics such as; I’m old Fashioned, All of Me, A Foggy Day, Can’t We Be Friends and many more songs from the golden age of jazz.

The Performers:

Helen Pahulu
Helen Pahulu is a jazz vocalist based in Auckland, New Zealand. She is currently in her final year studying for a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance. Her vocal style is inspired by Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. She is currently lead singer for the ‘Collective’ a Pasifika jazz ensemble based at the University of Auckland.

Andrew Healey
Andrew has performed professionally since his teenage years. He has sung and played in bars, restaurants, theatres; you name it. Andrew’s favourite singers include Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick Junior and Michael Bublé. Andrew is lead singer of Standard Deviation.

Chris Naughton
Originally a classically trained pianist, Chris ‘the doc’ has played jazz styles from swing to Brazilian samba in the UK and New Zealand. Chris is currently Musical Director for the swing band Standard Deviation, and has more recently together with Adam Naughton, Anthony White and Cameron Kelso formed the Naughton/White quartet. With Standard Deviation Chris has also produced and composed songs and jingles.

Adam Naughton
Adam has played drums since the age of 12 with a variety of rock groups before switching to playing jazz with Standard Deviation, and latterly the Naughton/White Quartet. Adam is currently directing a samba band in Mount Albert.

Anthony White
Anthony White started playing the double bass in 2010 in London. He has studied at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, California, and gigged around the San Francisco Bay Area.

Cameron Kelso
Cameron Kelso is a recent graduate of the University of Auckland and an active member of the Auckland jazz scene. Currently, Cameron is performing with the Queen City Big Band, the Filthy Junk Traders, and the self-led Voidfish Quartet.
