Learn more about leading 19th century landowners - the Kerr Taylors of Alberton - in this tour of St Luke’s church and cemetery in Mt Albert, as part of the Auckland Heritage Festival 2020.

Built in 1872 to the design of Pierre Finch Martineau Burrows and extended in 1883, St Luke's church in Mount Albert is Category II listed and is an excellent example of wooden Gothic Revival architecture.

Founding patrons and life-long parishioners, the Kerr Taylors of Alberton bequeathed part of their land for the church, cemetery and parsonage and also provided funds for its construction and a bell.

Two impressive stained glass windows dedicated to two daughters who died in infancy (1886) and to Allan and Sophia Kerr Taylor (1961) and are still in situ inside the church. Along with other notable past parishioners and clergy, Allan, Sophia and their ten children all rest in the cemetery.

This approx. 1 hour tour, takes place at St Luke's (704 New North Road) and is followed by tea & scones at your own pace back at Alberton, with plenty of time explore the house and meander in the garden at your leisure.

Bookings essential. To book contact Alberton at alberton@heritage.org.nz or (09) 8467367.

Tickets includes tea & scones and Alberton admission. Please note that transport between the two sites is not provided. It is a 4min drive or 20min walk.
