Printmaker Valerie Cuthbert showcases her new prints in this tribute exhibition to the rich diversity of Tiritiri Matangi.
"After a teaching career of 30 years I retired in 2000 and decided to become the artist I'd always dreamed of being. I painted canvases for several years until I discovered printmaking and never looked back, buying my own press and setting up a studio at home.
I teach an advanced class in printmaking at home once a week and run other classes at Estuary Arts Centre, Orewa, where I also exhibit my work. I live at Stanmore Bay on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula so it is natural for me to look at birds and coastal features as a source of images for printmaking. I have a busy exhibition year coming up at EAC.
In June I will be exhibiting my tribute to Tiritiri Matangi in the Foyer Gallery, July will feature a retrospective of quilts I made in the 80’s and 90’s, then the Overwintering Project/Taonga o to Ngahere group exhibition is in September, with an exhibition featuring local Hibiscus Coast Printmakers following in October."
