Pataka is delighted to be exhibiting the winners and finalists from New Zealand’s longest-running and largest annual art awards, The Wallace Art Awards.
The major prize-winners for the 2020 awards are Russ Flatt, who took out the Paramount Award for his photograph Kōruru (knucklebones); Darryn George, second place for Mara #26, oil pastel and acrylic on canvas; and Glen Hayward with At night at the museum, paint on timber, is third. The Wallace Arts Trust Fourth Award in 2020 went to an oil painting by Martin Basher and Sam Harrison’s Self Portrait Torso, in steel, plaster, blood and ply was the fifth award-winner.
The Wallace Arts First Runner-Up Award went to Virginia Leonard for Cripple made from clay, lustre and resin, and Second Runner-Up is Maryrose Crook with Herxing, oil on canvas. The Wallace Jury Award Winner is Wanda Gillespie for A Counting Frame for Future Beings, wood, brass, beads, coconut shell, table.
This year, due to COVID-19, the Annual Wallace Art Awards has suspended its residential placements as prizes and instead is offering cash awards to the total value of $132,000.
Pataka will also host a People’s Choice Award, announced at the end of season.
