Due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, it has become clear that it will be impossible to bring our dancers through the Australian and New Zealand borders in 2020. Following their sell-out 2019 performances of Swan Lake, the Imperial Russian Ballet Company return to New Zealand to perform a double bill, The Nutcracker & Don Quixote. Two sensational ballets, one magnificent night of ballet.

Act 1 - The Nutcracker
The ageless tale of bravery and dreams set to the music genius of Tchaikovsky's musical, this ballet features one of the most recognisable and enduring music scores ever written. Set at Christmas time, a young girl dreams of her Nutcracker prince and their adventures together.

Act 2 - Don Quixote
A ballet based on the Spanish novel by Miguel De S…and is considered the most influential work of literature from the Spanish golden age. This festive and flamboyant ballet was first performed in Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre in 1869.

The Imperial Russian Ballet Company was formed in 1994 by the Bolshoi Theatre soloist, Gediminas Taranda. The Imperial Russian Ballet Company comprises 40 dancers from the major ballet schools of Russia.
