We will present music by Orban, Gjeilo, Busto, Mendelssohn, Pergolesi, and a wonderful piece by NZ composer David Hamilton in Maori, as well as other works. The repertoire has been chosen to showcase our unique sound. It will be an exciting mix of music, with a wide emotional range. Sarah Kang is our accompanist.
Celebrating Song is something we have missed doing for most of 2020, along with many New Zealanders who were unable to attend live events. Little did we know that our rehearsal on March 16th was to be our last in-person rehearsal until June 15th. In the interim, we managed a kind of normality by rehearsing at our usual time on Mondays via Zoom. This meant that we could see each other on the screen, and keep the music current in our mind, although we had to do it on mute. It was a very strange time, but, compared to the problems that many people were facing, was not too serious.
The Ron Ball studio is a wonderful concert venue created during the restoration of the Town Hall after the earthquakes. It is the room where the CSO rehearse, on the first floor. It is not well signposted, but we will have our banner, and some people strategically placed to guide you. The nearest entrance to the studio is on Colombo Street rather than Kilmore.
