Kia ora e te whānau.
In June 2019, Tapu Te Ranga Marae was devastated by fire, just two years after the passing of the man who built it, kaumātua Bruce Stewart.
Vanessa Patea’s documentary tells the rich history of the marae as told by Bruce in the last years of his life. Through him and the voices of his family, we learn about ‘living Māori’ in an extraordinary place, built by a community of gang members, wayward youth, volunteers and the larger whānau who shared in Bruce’s vision.
Please join us for a fundraiser screening of the documentary [running time: 28 min] followed by a question and answer session with director Ness Patea (Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Maniapoto), producer Ruth Korver and members of the Stewart whānau. All proceeds will go to the rebuild project.
*If you can't make it to the screening but would like to make a donation to the rebuild, you can do so here:
