Talking Toi: Art After Hours

Have you ever looked at art and wondered… what is this trying to say to me? You’re certainly not alone.

In this after-hours session, we’ll spend some time in the gallery with Te Papa art educator Laura Jones. Laura will facilitate a discussion using visual thinking strategies to help us unpack a selection of works on display in Toi Art. You might be surprised by how much you know, and what you can discover hidden in plain sight!

Afterwards, you’ll have the option to stick around for some light refreshments and talk more about the strategies used and the artworks in the gallery.

About Laura Jones
Images and objects have long held a fascination for Laura – as a classroom teacher they introduced an inspiring way to bring in new narratives. In the role as an educator at Te Papa, she is able to use images and objects within the context of the national museum to explore connections across collections, and to open up challenging narratives.

Laura has been using the techniques of visual thinking strategies to provide a really open-ended way of looking at art, the experience is engaging and empowering, and will rekindle your passion for art.

Laura studied Art History and English, and has taught in schools in Cambridge, London, and Barcelona. She carried out Museum Studies in Wellington leading to her post at Te Papa.
