Auckland Live presents Music in the Square.

It wouldn’t be Auckland Live Summer in the Square without a sensational music line-up, and this summer is no exception. Music-man extraordinaire, Matthew Crawley has gone and blown us all out of the water with an eclectic range of musical acts to enjoy in Aotea Square.

If you’re a music nerd or you simply love a cool beverage in the sun while the sweet sounds of live music sizzle in the background, come on down to the Square and make the most of this free music programme. It’s going to be a scorcher!

As part of Auckland Live Summer in the Square.

Thursday, 16th January, 6pm – 7pm
Ethno New Zealand
Folk
For the third year running Ethno will take place in Aotearoa New Zealand. The audience of Auckland Folk Festival can once again look forward to an energetic and touching set of music from around the world, performed by a pop up world music band with members from India, Solomon Islands, Finland, Chile, Australia, Belgium, Aotearoa and more. Ethno is an international music movement for young adult musicians - instrumentalists and singers - run through Jeunessed Musicales International (JMI). It was founded in Sweden in 1990 and has since grown worldwide.

Today Ethno is present in around 20 countries with a mission to revive and keep alive global cultural heritage amongst youth. Ethno New Zealand is an artistic residency of traditional/folk/world music that gathers young musicians age 18-30 from Aotearoa and the rest of the world for 10 intense days of music, friendship, sharing through workshops and a number of final performances. Ethno NZ 2020 will be spending the first week at beautiful Piritahi Marae on Waiheke Island and finishing off with Auckland Folk Festival.

Ethno provides an opportunity for young people from across the globe to come together and engage through music in a manner that is characterised by respect, generosity and openness. Ethno brings the world to New Zealand and New Zealand to the world.
