Soul Connections is a joint exhibition by Janee Harrison (pictured) and Bobbi Rowe, about reconnecting through art; being able to feel or read the messages captured within art through symbols, colour, or expression.

So many of us have experienced the dulling of our soul through loss, heartache, and life in general. Having lost her mother, Janee’s strongest soul connection, she felt the need to create a reminder to herself that we are all still connected. Janee’s medium is mixed, using a base of ink and acrylic.

Artist Profile – Janee:

‘I was born in Adelaide Australia, we moved to New Zealand when I was 6 weeks old. I grew up in Flaxmere, Hawkes Bay. I have 8 siblings and have been blessed with a wonderful husband my childhood sweetheart, 6 sons and 2 grandchildren and beautiful daughter in laws. We moved to Dunedin 24 years ago where my sister held art classes, my sister was the biggest influence in stimulating my love of painting. With my sister’s encouragement I took my first Art Class, eventually entering my first exhibition. I won first prize for New Artist the painting was called ‘Serenity’. I also won the award for Up and Coming New Artist. In 2001 we moved to Scotland I continued to create and sell while in Scotland. We moved back to New Zealand in 2014 and built in Awatoto Napier. I love to spend time painting in my wee studio. I’m thrilled to be doing a joint exhibition with my childhood friend Bobbie Rowe. My aim next year is to teach classes to Adults and children the class will be called ‘Healing through Art’ where they will learn to re-connect and heal through the use of Art.’

Artist Profile – Bobbi:

‘My Name is Bobbi Rowe and I am an Artist. Wow… I find that very hard to say actually. To talk about myself as an Artist makes me feel somewhat nervous… It is the expectation I think.

My work varies depending on my creative mood and available media. I like to work in many different medias so I don’t feel boxed in. My inspiration like my media varies. Sometimes I feel the need to highlight social injustice at other times it might be the love of my family and friends.

I like to create my art to exercise my creative energy, once a piece or a concept enters my head I need to get it out so others can see what I have been thinking, feeling, visualizing or experiencing. Sometimes it is not even about the end result it is about the journey and the physical method used.’

Join Janee and Bobbi to celebrate the opening of their exhibition on Friday 31 January, 5-7pm. All welcome! Light refreshments will be served.
