Musician and author Shayne Carter talks to Laura Williamson about his music and his autobiography, "Dead People I Have Known".
Shayne Carter is a Dunedin musician and writer. Since first emerging in his high school punk rock band in the 80s he has carved out a long and acclaimed career as the songwriter/singer/guitarist in the bands Dimmer, Straitjacket Fits and Doublehappys. He is a seven times New Zealand Music Award winner and a member of the NZ Music Hall Of Fame.
His autobiography “Dead People I Have Known” was released last year by Victoria University Press and won the General Non Fiction prize at the 2020 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. The book also collected the E.H McCormick Prize for best first work of General Non Fiction. In 2020 he was announced a 2020 Arts Laureate by the NZ Arts Foundation.
This event will take place in the Workshop Room at the Sherwood. The Workshop Room is located behind Reception.
