Saxophone Section Workshop with Lana Law

Ever wondered how those professional Big Bands sound so good? It’s the little things that make the difference in a saxophone section. Lana Law lifts the curtain on how to play better as a section. In this workshop you will discover the secrets of phrasing, length of notes, articulation, blending and balance. Dynamics are key, and Lana will talk about when to follow the leader and how to take charge of the melody line.

Bring your saxophone and be ready to play!

Lana Law picked up the baritone sax at 13 at Burnside High School and knew it was the right instrument for her straight away. After completing her Bachelor of Music (BMus) Degree in Jazz Performance at Massey University she spent time touring the world as a professional musician. Her passion is teaching students and groups, both privately and as an itinerant music teacher and Band Director in schools. Lana is the co-founder and Music Director of NZ’s first female big band The All Girl Big Band, and Music Director of the Garden City Big Band. She is in high demand as a session musician for many different types of bands, CD recordings and shows.
