Rotorua Nui

The Rotorua Chinese Community Association alongside Multicultural Rotorua and Rotorua Lakes Council look forward to sharing a fun evening of Chinese food, culture, dance, crafts and more at Te Manawa (corner of Hinemoa and Tutanekai Streets) from 5pm – 9pm on Thursday 23 January 2020.

The festival will take place alongside the regular Rotorua Night Market and celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar. This year is the Year of the Rat, the very first of all the Chinese zodiac animals.

Celebrate Chinese cuisine with dumplings, pork buns, rice cakes and more while you watch traditional dragon dances and other cultural performances.

Learn your future for 2020 from a fortune cookie and take part in the red envelope tradition where stallholders will give children red envelopes – there will be great prizes up for grabs!

Watch the Dumpling Eating Competition while children enjoy Chinese crafts and calligraphy.

Enjoy the festival atmosphere with red lanterns and couplets (red banners wishing good fortune and happiness) strung across Te Manawa.
