Celebrate Cook Islands Language Week with the Ma‘uke Akatokamanāva string band and singers. Weave an ‘ei katu (head garland) and watch tīvaevae artisans stitch quilts with love.
Turou, oro mai, aere mai! All welcome!
Kia pūāvai tō tātou reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani i Aotearoa (that the Cook Islands language may blossom in Aotearoa) is the theme for this year’s Cook Islands language week. Listen to the reo (language) through powerful ‘īmene (song). Be inspired by the performances of Ma’uke Akatokamanāva Organization of Wellington, a Cook Islands community group based in Te Whanaganui-a-Tara who strive to teach and share the reo, peu (culture) and ‘akon‘anga tūpuna (ancestral way of life) to all who are willing to learn.
