Phoenix Belly Dance has been delivering community classes, lectures, shows, and workshops for 10 years. We have a full day of free/subsidised activities to celebrate this milestone with the community. Our aim is to encourage cross-cultural exchange, diversity, women’s community, wellness, and positive body image.
Our free activities include:
*12pm-12:45pm - Free community belly dance class.
Attendees will learn the foundation movements from one of our Professional Teachers
*1pm-2pm - The Lunchtime Panel Q&A on "Belly Dance and Body Image"
To support and encourage body positivity and curiosity about this dance form and its place in New Zealand. The panel will include teachers, professional performers, and representatives of the North Shore Women's Centre and Middle Eastern Dance Association of New Zealand.
*2pm-3:15pm - The Open Stage
Providing an opportunity for students and the community to practice performing in a safe and supportive environment.
*3:30pm-4:30pm - Lecture by Serenity Wise on the cultural implications of fusing dance genres from different cultures
To encourage discourse among students and the dance community and their responsibility to consider the implications of fusing different dance styles, particularly as it relates to dancers that are not of the same cultural origin as the dances they participate in.
*5pm-6pm - Pre-Show
Professional artists presenting solo works from the last decade with Phoenix Belly Dance.
*6:30-8:30pm - 10 Year Anniversary Theatre Show

*8:30pm-10pm - The Hafla (Arabic party)
A celebration with the community including student performances, socialising, and cultural traditions.
